Classes are based on the Ashtanga Primary Series.
Yoga Chikitsa ("Primary Series" in Sanskrit) can be translated as "Yoga Therapy". It focuses on āsanas (poses) that purify the body and restore health. The āsanas are arranged in a sequential order, each posture builds on the previous one, strengthening and returning the body to a state of balance.
Class Descriptions:
Beginners Progressive Ashtanga Vinyasa
A trimmed-down version of the full Primary Series in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, this is a fast-paced, strength-building, moving meditation class that will push you to your edge and leave you feeling energized and empowered. Extra attention is given to alignment and joint safety, especially while going through each 'vinyasa' (the half series of the Sun Salutations). It is so important to take a bit of time to work on this most common sequence in yoga, as practitioners can do upwards of 30 vinyasas a class in the non-modified version.
This class will focus with the foundations of breath, bhandas (locks) and the alignment of the beginning poses of the series. This wonderful way to ease into a new practice or strengthen an existing practice.
Intermediate Progressive Ashtanga Vinyasa
See description for Beginners class. This class will follow classic breathe count more closely allowing for synchronization of breathe and movement.
Half Primary
Half Primary Series with emphasis on proper alignment and detail of the standing sequence and first half of the seated postures.
